My approach to online therapy in Miami, FL

When you think of online therapy, maybe you’re thinking of platforms like Better Help, Talkspace, and the range of new online platforms that have emerged.

First, I’d like to share my honest thoughts about these mass online therapy platforms.

Both therapists and patients have had negative experiences with these online platforms, giving online therapy a poor reputation (and a justified one at that considering the stories these folks have shared).  Additionally, therapists on these platforms aren’t paid well. A group of therapists in the UK have publicly criticized the unethical workload and low pay on these platforms. Consequently, therapists are burned out and disgruntled, and these effects trickle down to their patients, as well. Patients are left feeling depressed, anxious, and in no better position than they were before signing up for their services. And most of them probably are leery of doing online therapy of any kind. Yuck!

I’m here to reassure you that working with a skilled online therapist who has the training and credentials to help you with your specific challenges is ENTIRELY different from what you might have experienced on the mass therapy platforms.  When you work with me, you won’t be connected to an AI robot therapist - you’ll be talking to a real, living, breathing person via a HIPAA-compliant video call.

Online therapy is different from in-person therapy, but it can be just as effective - if you find a skilled therapist who is trained in teletherapy and can recognize the nuances in online therapy that are different from in-person therapy.   When you work with a skilled therapist, this mode of therapy offers the same level of professional care you would receive in an in-person setting, but with the added convenience of being accessible from the comfort of your home.

Studies have shown that online therapy can be just as effective as its traditional counterpart for treating a variety of mental health conditions, from depression and anxiety to more complex issues like PTSD. Read on to learn how online therapy can benefit you.

Benefits Of Online Therapy

  • Do Therapy At Home

Your work schedule, having quality time with family, or where you live can make it more difficult to attend in-person therapy. Tired of Miami traffic? You can eliminate travel time, gas costs, and other expenses with online therapy. The best part is, you can connect with me no matter where you are in Florida, whether you’re visiting family/friends or traveling for work. All you need is a stable internet connection.

  • Flexible Scheduling

In-person therapy often requires adjusting your schedule to fit your appointments. With online therapy, you won’t have to worry about a long waitlist and choose the time that works for you. Scheduling flexibility makes it easier to balance therapy with your other commitments.

  • Privacy And Comfort

The idea of walking into a therapy office might scare you, and that’s okay. Online therapy provides a confidential setting right in the comfort of your own home. If you want to walk on the treadmill or go to the park for therapy, you can do that, too. It’s your choice.

How It Works

Online Therapy FAQs

  • Yes. The COVID-19 pandemic made online therapy and online medical care a necessity. As a result, clinicians were able to research the efficacy of online therapy and validate whether it was effective. Since then, numerous scientific studies have validated the effectiveness of online therapy. It has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person therapy for treating a wide range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and even PTSD.

  • Yes. All sessions are conducted through Spruce Health, a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. You can securely call, send photos and texts, and even fax me on this platform. It’s very easy to use, and my patients love it.

  • To do online therapy successfully, you’ll need a stable internet connection and a device with a camera and microphone (laptop, tablet, or smartphone). We’ll connect via the Spruce Spruce Health app. When you schedule your first intake session with me, I’Il send you an invitation link where you can download the app, upload your intake forms, and get started.

  • Online therapy can be particularly useful for parents who may find it challenging to leave the house due to childcare responsibilities, mobility issues, busy work schedules, or other constraints. It’s perfect for mothers who are still nursing or parents with high-needs children or multiple children.

I provide online therapy to children, teens, and adults residing anywhere in Florida, including Palm Beach, Tampa, Miami, and Key Biscayne.

  • The timeline for noticeable improvements can vary from person to person. However, many patients report experiencing improved well-being within a few sessions. It is important to remember that therapy is not a “quick fix” - successful, long-lasting change takes time.

  • If you have a history of trauma or other mental health conditions, then you’ve come to the right place! As a trauma therapist, I specialize in helping children, teens, and adults with complex trauma histories. You don’t have to discuss your trauma in detail until you’re ready. When you are ready to disclose any history of trauma, we can tailor your treatment plan to address these additional factors and integrate other techniques so you get the best treatment possible.

  • This is a tough one. Online therapy can be a lot tougher with children and teens since they don’t have to actually GO anywhere. However, you can worry less about pulling your kids out of school because you’re not dealing with weather, traffic and rush hour. Similarly, if you have an active teen who spends a lot of time after school in extracurriculars, online therapy is one way to address the time constraints of busy teens who need therapy.

Depending on your child or teen’s specific needs, online therapy may work well, especially if you live in a rural area and can’t get access to a therapist due to weather (such as hurricane season). Schedule a free consultation with me to see if online therapy may be right for your child or teen.
